Reading Compliance Note
Parents: There have been many changes from the state in regard to students reading performance. To be in compliance with these guidelines as well as in sync with the Monroe County School District 2008-2009 K-12 Comprehensive Research-Based Reading Plan, HOB is implementing some changes.
·
The first
guideline we must meet is that “All students in grades 6-8 not
performing at grade level proficiency on FCAT reading (Level 3 and
above) must receive intervention.”
· The second is that “All Level 1 and Level 2 students will be placed in an intensive reading class.” The reading requirement from the Florida DOE for Students with Disabilities states that “Students with disabilities scoring Level 1 or Level 2 on the FCAT reading portion… are required to receive intensive reading instruction.”
· The third is that “All Level 1 and Level 2 students who did not pass the oral reading fluency assessment must replace their elective with a second reading class in order to have an intensive reading block.”
Our foremost goal is to help your child find success in reading in order to support all academics. We appreciate your support in helping us make these transitions positive ones for your students and remind you that our 21 Century Community Learning Center from 7:15 – 8:15 am and 3:15 – 5:15 pm Mondays – Thursdays is another way we are reaching out to help your child; please utilize these wonderful academic sessions.

About Medications: Students are not allowed to carry any medications (including cold medicine, cough drops, etc). These medications need to be brought to the clinic by the parent and distributed via the nurse in the clinic. Also, students may only carry inhalers and epi pens as long as they have turned in the prescription to the clinic and the parent has signed a permission slip.
Important information about teens abusing cold medicines:

to present a variety of materials that parents can use as they prepare themselves for another year of supporting their children's formal education.
