The Monroe County School District Division of Career and Adult Education congratulates Patricia, William, Christian, Hunter, Kiersten, Nicholas, and Ariadna for passing their IC3 Key Applications exam and earning their first industry certification. With the support of their teacher, Phillip Baucom, these 7th graders have worked countless hours to ensure student success and understanding. The IC3 Digital Literacy program ensure that students are prepared to succeed in a technology-based world. IC3 Global Standard 4 (GS4) exam objectives are aligned with today's most current technologies and relevant digital literacy requirements, including social media, collaboration, and cloud computing concepts. The GS4 certification is comprised of three individual exams and is designed to validate competency in three key areas: Computing Fundamentals, Living Online, and Key Applications. This is the first year this opportunity has been provided to middle schoolers and there are currently 10 students districtwide who have earned this certification. We expect to have more 6th and 7th grade students certify before the end of the school year.

Congratulations to Horace O’ Bryant School teacher Ms. Nicole Smith. In December she was selected by her colleagues as the 2015 Horace O’ Bryant School Teacher of the Year! Today, January 15th , Superintendent Mark Porter informed Ms. Smith that she was selected as the 2015 Monroe County Teacher of the Year!
Principal Mike Henriquez stated “Ms. Smith’s involvement and leadership have been a critical element to the success of our school. In addition to AVID and WEB she currently is our 7th grade team leader, Secretary for School Advisory, Mathematics Department Leader and our middle school coach for Positive Behavior Intervention System. Most notably, through her efforts and our PBIS Team, Horace O’ Bryant School just earned Silver Status as a model school for 2014. Nicole has also been an advocate for Students with Disabilities by assisting in the development of our middle school schedule and monitoring I.E.P. caseloads. Through her leadership and involvement in all of these programs she has been the single greatest factor in improving the culture and climate of our school. Nicole’s ability to accomplish all of this has been truly amazing, and she is continuing her leadership efforts by participating in the aspiring administrator program.”
“As we know, Monroe County School District has many excellent teachers, and Nicole is certainly at the top of the list. She has devoted countless hours to our school, students, and community. On behalf of our family here at H.O.B., again we say congratulations to Ms. Smith as the Monroe County Teacher of the Year.”
